Having realized the current matter of disturbance, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to postpone the Computer Skill Test and Stenography test scheduled to be held on Sunday, August 27. An official notice was issued by ESIC on Friday evening stating the postponement of Computer Skill Test/ Stenography Test for the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC) & Stenographer in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh region.
As stated in the published notice, the decision has been taken in the view of the law and order situation in the State of Punjab and Haryana. “The exam in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh region has been postponed till further orders,” the notice reads. The Stenography Test (Part III) and Computer Skill Test (Part-III exam) was scheduled to be held on 27th August for the recruitment of about 2,090 posts of UDC and 115 posts of Stenographer.
Moreover, as per the notice, the candidates who are residing in the State of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh or who will have to embark on a journey through these affected States are unable to appear for the scheduled exam on 27th August at other regions will be allowed to sit for the exam on a separate date. The fresh date for EIC Skill test will be informed to such candidates shortly. The applicants are recommended to keep visiting the official website (www.esic.nic.in) for the updates regarding the concerned matter.
The qualifying nature of Stenography Test (Part-III): It will include Stenography test of 10 minutes with a speed of 80 words/ minute in English or Hindi Language on the computer for an hour. VH applicants will have to transcribe the matter in 85 minutes for English shorthand whereas, in the case of Hindi shorthand, 95 minutes will be given for Stenographer posts.
Computer Skill Test (Part III): The Computer Skill Test is meant to be held for the recruitment to the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC). As per the notified advertisement, there will be 3 Parts- Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Part 1 will be based on preparation of two Power Point Presentations/ Slides on MS-Power Point (10 marks), Part 2 will be based on Typing a letter/ passage/ paragraph of about 150-200 words with formatting in MS Word (20 marks). Part 3 will be based on Preparation of Table/Database in MS-Excel with use of formulae (20 marks).
Overall, the Computer Skill Test will be of total 50 marks and the duration given to complete the exam will be 30 minutes. In order to get qualified in the exam, the applicants need to acquire 17 marks out of overall 50 marks irrespective of obtained marks in every part.
For Steno posts, ESIC had already notified that it will test the PWD candidates for their working knowledge of Computers. Such PWD candidates who are unable to type due to their disability will be subjected to a written examination comprising of questions related to computer. The written exam will include 5 sections namely Basics of Computer, Basics of MS Word, Basics of Windows 7, and Basics of Internet. Each section will carry 10 marks. The duration given for the Visually Disabled applicants is 40 Minutes.
In order to get qualified in the exam, the applicant will have to acquire 15 marks out of 50 marks irrespective of obtained marks in every section. There will no negative marking in the objective type test on working knowledge of Computers of PWD.
