DST Launches INSPIRE Fellowship program to strengthen Science base

Department of Science & Technology has commenced  the INSPIRE (Innovation in Scientific Pursuit for Inspired Research) Fellowship program under the Ministry of Science & Technology. The shortlisted candidates would be eligible for pursuing Doctoral research in basic and applied sciences including engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy etc. at any recognized University or Institute in India through fellowships.

The shortlisting of candidates for INSPIRE fellowship would be completely based on academic merit, Supervisor, Choice of Host Institution and tentative area/topic of Research and not on the basis of performance in any competitive exam. An expert committee looks over the procedure of shortlisting of the applications.

Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) controls the whole procedure and has been constituted for attracting, attaching, retaining and nourishing talented young scientific Human Resource to strengthen the research and development base in Science field. The motive is accomplished through providing INSPIRE fellowship to the deserving candidates.

Research grant under INSPIRE Fellowship is provided for 5 years duration (completion of PhD degree), it has also been informed that there is a provision of 1000 fellowships to be given every year to deserving candidates on first-cum-first-serve basis. The fellowship is equivalent to National Eligibility Test/ GATE / Junior Research Fellowship.

The applications for INSPIRE Fellowship program can be made online only. The step-by-step procedure has been mentioned at the official web portal of the Department. Last date of application for this academic year fellowships has been scheduled for 10 September.
