DMAT Scam Bigger Then VYAPAM Scam, CBI Informs SC

After CBI probe on the high irregularities in Dental and Medical Test (DMAT) through which students are admitted in various medical as well as dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea regarding the DMAT scam. This is the second bigger scam that the state has witnessed after the VYAPAM scam. According to CBI officials, the DMAT scam is much bigger than the VYAPAM scam.

As per a report, there are as many as 6 private medical colleges and 15 private dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh. The medical entrance test DMAT is conducted every year by Association of Private Dental and Medical Colleges (APDMC) in order to fill up 2800 seats in these private institutions. As per the norms 42 percent seats are for state quota, while 43 percent of seats are reserved for management quota and the remaining 15 percent seats are reserved for NRI students.

The Supreme Court of India accepted to hear the case regarding the DMAT scam after allegations came from petitioners stating that the seats in the private medical as well as dental colleges were sold for Rs 15 lakh to Rs 1.50 crore. And also the students were not admitted under the merit list of Dental and Medical Test thus claiming that the scam tune over Rs 10,000 crore in past few years.

While submitting the report, the petitioner Anand Rai and Hashish Kumar Chaturvedi stated that the seats of private medical and dental colleges were kept blocked till the last date of counselling without any intention of taking admission and on the very same day those imposter students cancels their admission thus enabling the students in management quota to get admission.

A bench of Chief Justice HL Dutta together with Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy stated that, “It seems that DMAT scam is worse than that of VYAPAM scam”.

However, many of the officials think that the DMAT scam is somehow related to the VYAPAM scam and it is necessary for the central government to take necessary steps. As VYAPAM scam was related to the admission in government colleges and DMAT is related to the admission in private colleges, it might be possible that these two scams may be operating under a same command.
