Digital India Gains Momentum As MHRD Aims To Bring Degrees And Certificates Online

It seems like our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious project “Digital India’ is gaining some serious momentum since Javadekar said recently that the HRD Ministry is preparing to bring digital degrees and certificates. Students of India will now be spared from the hassle of carrying physical certificates and degrees as from the next academic session onwards, the degrees and certificates to the students will be given in digital format.

The announcement was made by Education Minister at the national conference for awareness on National Academic Depository. “There is a need to take pledge and that pledge is by 2017, all degrees and board certificates, everything will go in digital format,” HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said.

Apart from giving away certificates in digital format, every student will also get an opportunity to upload their other certificates and awards, which they have won earlier on it after proper authentication. So his profile is available in one click. The HRD Ministry has fast-tracked work on setting up a virtual database under which all academic records will be available in digital format, to curb the menace of fake educational degrees and marksheets.

The creation of a digital database will help the recruiters who want to get the credentials of applicants and will also eliminate the need to physically approach the university in case of verification. The system will not only eliminate corruption but is a mega step towards realizing Prime Minister’s Digital India drive. The need of the hour is to change the mindset of the people. The problem of today’s world is although change is taking place at a fast pace in the world, minds are not changing with that pace.

Technology is a big enabler. Digital India is designed to empower India and Indians. The key initiative by the HRD Ministry under Digital India, serves as a platform for issuance of documents and certificates in a digital way, thus eliminating the use of physical documents. Students who sign up for the same will get dedicated cloud storage space which can be used for storing key documents like mark-sheets, degrees, certificates and other awards.
