The department of Delhi Police has notified the vacancy of 4669 posts of Constables (Executive) that includes the opportunity for both male and female aspirants in the force. This is going to be the largest recruitment in Delhi Police, last such recruitment was done before the Commonwealth Games held in 2010. Delhi Police and Staff Service Commission (SSC) would jointly coordinate the recruitment process which consists of physical test, written test and medical examination.
Delhi Police has also brought around 33 percent vacancies for female candidates, which can be seen as an attempt of the department to bring the representation of women in the force up from existing 9 percent. The vacancies include 3,115 posts for male candidates and 1,554 posts for female candidates.
The application process for Delhi Police recruitment 2016 has commenced from September 10 and the candidates would be able to submit the online application form by October 10. The registered candidates would be required to appear for physical endurance and measurement test (PE & MT) which would be organised by Delhi Police. The shortlisted candidates from PE & MT would then be called to appear for written test. SSC would conduct the online tests. The Commission would provide the merit list of the candidates to Delhi Police for further detailed medical examination and police verification.
The Delhi Police would also organise ‘on-spot’ physical efficiency/standard tests for the outstation candidates. Till now, the shortlisted candidates were required to appear for the same in Delhi. The recruitment teams would be headed by an additional CP or DCP-level officer and they would physically visit the designated centres across all the 29 States and 7 UTs to conduct the physical standard test.
The physical exam (PE & MT) would be of qualfying nature and would act as a screening test. The candidates would have to qualify 1600 meters race, long jump and high jump under the physical efficiency test, the details can be checked at the official notification available on the official site www.ssc.nic.in.
Till now, the recruitment of constables in the force was done directly by the department, while aiming to bring much transparency, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has been rendered the responsibility this time. SSC has already been conducting the recruitments for paramilitary forces and sub-inspectors in Delhi Police. For the first time, SSC would look after the Constable recruitment in Delhi Police and for it, the Commission would organise online computer based written tests.
The decision to authorise SSC for recruitment of constables was majorly taken because of past experiences where the written exams were either cancelled or postponed because of the paper leak. One police officer told Hindustan Times, “This not only caused huge embarrassment for the force but also wastage of government money. Also, recruitment processes got delayed because of such malpractices. The future of potential candidates gets equally affected due to it.”
The Commission would organise the written exam for Delhi Police Constable recruitment on March 4 across several test centres in 124 cities. The exam would be taken as a computer based test and the paper would consist of 100 questions divided in three sections. The questions would be distributed as Reasoning (35 questions), General Knowledge/Current Affairs (50 questions) and Numerical Ability (15 questions).
