MCD election result for Delhi Municipal elections 2017 will be announced for 270 wards today. The result date of declaration of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) 2017 elections was set at April 26 but Exit poll Delhi MCD election 2017 results are already here. The voting ended yesterday (April 24) at 5:46 pm and the MCD election counting date was already set for April 26. So, as the counting of votes begins from the morning, results of MCD polls 2017 will be out by evening. State Election Commission, (SEC) Delhi will publish the MCD results at it’s website sec.delhigovt.nic.in or www.delhi.gov.in.
The voting for polls to the 3 civic bodies under MCD namely, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) was held yesterday. There are 104 wards each in SDMC and NDMC while EDMC has 64 wards.
The election commission had said that around 1.3 crore people were expected to vote yesterday out of which, over one lakh were to vote for the first time ever.
Here’s how the MCD elections 2017 looked:
- The voting was for 272 wards under MCD and had begun at 8 am on Tuesday.
- A total of 13,022 polling booths at 770 places were set up.
- None of the Above (NOTA) option was made available for the first time ever in MCD polls.
- Around 56 thousand Delhi Police personnel were on duty during the polls.
- Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress, and Aam Aadmi party are the three major, main and top contenders here.
- BJP had won last two MCD polls.
- The voting turnout is reported to be around 54 percent.
- The polling took place only for 270 wards as it problems were reported at two wards.
What exit polls said:
Right after the voting ended, three exit/opinion polls predicted a grand win for BJP. Out of the the three exit polls, two polls India Today-Axis, and C-Voter ABP news pinned that BJP is likely to emerge victorious for the third time in a row, leaving Aam Aadmi Party and Congress in the dust.
It happens that exit polls are wrong many times but when these exit polls predict one-sided win, it tends to become true. However, we won’t know for sure until the MCD election vote counting ends and the results are announced.
It was not so long ago that Kejriwal led AAP won Delhi assembly elections with a bang but MCD polls are a different story now.
In 2012, BJP had won 59 seats in North Delhi, 44 in South Delhi and 39 seats in North Delhi. Apparently, Bahujan Samaj party was a contender then and had managed to score 15 seats from all 3 bodies. Congress had managed to win on 77 seats.
But the exit polls of yesterday depict that Congress might score than 20-30 seats on a whole and the same goes for AAP.
