Delhi Government School Principals to visit Cambridge University & Local Schools in the UK

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia held a meeting at Delhi Secretariat on Monday with two Cambridge University officials, Jaydeep Prabhu and Harold Chi, and announced his plan to send government school teachers to the varsity in three batches. Initially, total 90 Principals of Delhi government schools would be sent to the United Kingdom under Delhi government’s teachers training initiative.

Under the Delhi budget for the fiscal year 2016-17, Delhi government allocated Rs. 102 crore for teachers training, which is 11 times higher than last year. Manish Sisodia said, “I dream of a world class education in Delhi government schools.” Sisodia and Cambridge University officials held discussions over education leaders programs to be held at Cambridge this summer. After meeting, he announced, “90 Delhi government school principals will be sent to Cambridge in 3 batches. The education leadership programme will span over 10 days.”

Earlier in January, we had reported that Delhi government would train the teachers of government schools at par with their foreign counterparts. For this, teachers and principals of government schools would be send to visit some of the best universities abroad.

In the meeting, Sisodia said, “Our principals and teachers are very talented, but we need to impart them with the necessary leadership skills.” Apart from Cambridge, the principals would also visit local schools to understand the education system of UK in detail. They would also interact with the teachers of government schools there.

An official statement followed the meeting, which mentioned, “It has been agreed that the teachers conducting leadership training exercise in Cambridge University would also be visiting Delhi and would interact with the principals of Government schools to formulate the next steps of training programme.”

After the talks, Sisodia said, “It’s my attempt to make students learn instead of being taught. I am trying to improve the seeds to have greener trees.” “Delhi government school teachers will land in Cambridge. My effort towards fulfilling my dream of world class education in government schools,” he added.

Delhi government is also running special classes for teachers training in Delhi, where around 24 thousand teachers are participating. The government aims to prepare teachers for raising foundation skills of students.
