Common entrance likely for FTII and SRFTI admissions from 2018-19

SRFTIDecision makers of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) and the Film and Television Institute India (FTII), Pune have hinted that these two institutes may conduct a common entrance test from the 2018-19 academic year.

After a team of officials visited SRFTI from the FTII to discuss the nuances of conducting a common entrance test for both these institutes, it was concluded that the test will not take place for the academic year of 2017-18 due the time restraints but they did express the possibility of having one from the academic year of 2018-19. Both these institutes come under that Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and a meeting of academic delegates was held in Mumbai on January 17.

The idea of having a common entrance test is beneficial for both, the students and the institutes. The FTII conducts its entrance test in as many as 24 centres all over the country and the SRFTI also has a similar number of entrance test centres. The FTII incurs a heavy cost of around 30 lakhs for this process. With a single entrance test, this cost can be cut down. Also, the students will also not have to sit for two separate exams and pay the entrance fees twice. Both the institutes conduct their tests within the same time frame and hence things are expected to move smoothly. Students will have to apply online for one test and fill up their preferences. The shortlisted ones will be given an orientation programme in respective campuses later on. An interview shall be conducted thereafter and students will be selected accordingly.

The FTII, this year will be organising its entrance test through the offline mode. The admission forms will be available in both online and offline formats. The applications will be available from the second week of June. The application fee for general candidates is Rs 2150 and Rs 650 for those belonging to the reserved category.

Similarly, the SRFTI applications will be out in the first week of April and candidates will have to apply for the entrance test through the online mode only. The application fee for general candidates is Rs 2000 while the fee for candidates belonging to reserved category is Rs 500.
