COMEDK UGET scrapped for medical courses leaving 1 lakh in disarray

comedk exam cancelled

In a latest development, in the wake of green-lit NEET, COMEDK has cancelled its UGET exam for medical courses. However the schedule for engineering entrance remains intact and will be held on Sunday. The Association responsible for the holding of this entrance, notified candidates via its web portal prior a day of examination.

The under-graduate entrance test was scheduled to be held tomorrow on 8th May, 2016 for medical as well as engineering courses.

Reportedly, 1.79 lakh candidates were to sit for the examination on Sunday out of which only 78,000 would now be sitting for the engineering test as 1.01 lakh candidates had applied for test in medical stream.

Supreme Court had restored the NEET: national eligibility cum entrance test this year after it was withdrawn in 2013 after a short run of one year. Although SC’s decision came in on 28 April paving way for NEET this year and also making AIPMT as its first phase, the decision regarding admission through state level entrance test CETs is due on Monday.

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges, COMEDK issued the statement earlier today, only a day before the test was to take place. The decision has left nearly 1 lakh candidates in disarray who don’t know what to make of the situation. As it’s too late for the decision, a large number of candidates are still expected to show up at their exam centres, only to return disappointed and, shocked.

COMEDK conducts this UGET test each year to facilitate admissions to nearly 20,000 seats consisting of medical, dental and engineering streams. 14 medical, 23 dental and around 150 engineering colleges consider COMEDK test rankings to take admissions presently but the scenario has changed this year as medical admissions will only be provided on the basis of merit achieved in NEET exam.

Out of those who have taken AIPMT apart from applying for COMEDK UGET 2016, need not worry but the candidates who haven’t taken AIPMT, would have to apply for second phase of NEET, set to be held on 24th July 2016.

Supreme court has clarified that apart form CETs, no other private institutions can conduct their own entrance for medical as decision for the fate of CETs will come on Monday.

So, COMEDK UGET for medical courses is cancelled and it’s conduct is now subjected to Honourable Supreme Court’s decision.
