Today, September 10 came with a hope for Jammu & Kashmir as the Chief Minister of State launched ‘Model School Scheme‘ by inaugurating the first government model school in Basohli. He also inaugurated the historic SRML HSS at Jammu as a Model School. CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said, “I am happy we are making a new beginning from Basohli and Jammu, from where we will take this movement to other parts of the state. We have launched a new movement for providing quality education to students. Unless we make strides in the education sector, we cannot progress on any other front.”
CM was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Ch. Lal Singh, Minister for Education, Nayeem Akhtar, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Minister of State for School Education, Priya Sethi, Chief Secretary, B. R. Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal along with other senior officers of the education department.
CM accused previous governments of ignoring the education system and affirmed that his government will take effective measures to uplift the quality of education in the State. The model school scheme will enable the top-quality education within the reach of poor students. The government has decided to start the initiative with infrastructural upgradations in the schools. He said, “The education sector received a huge setback over the past few years, we will take every step to train teachers so that they impart quality education to our students.”
Backing up the scheme, CM said, “Teachers are nation builders and we will take every step to train them so that they impart quality education to our students along with providing students with access to learning aids. Model schools will have to adopt primary schools in their catchment areas to inculcate new concepts of teaching to students early in their career.”
The Chief Minister also inspected the new smart classrooms and fully-equipped computer labs set up in the newly launched model school. He credited State education minister for providing students with access to model tools of learning.
Deputy CM Nirmal Kumar Singh spoke highly of the vision of PM Narendra Modi and CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for transforming the education sector. He prompted the Education minister for taking up such steps in other remote areas and said, “The patronage that the education segment has received by the present Government will continue till we achieve benchmark levels.”
MLA from Basohli Ch. Lal Singh announced that a nursing college would be set up soon in a vacant old hospital building.
State Education minister Nayeem Akhtar appraised the CM for taking up the initiative in education sector, he also informed that the government will upgrade 12 more schools in Kathua as model schools which include Government Higher Secondary Schools at Batrote, Gund, Plassey, Hatli, Mahanpur, Ramkote, Nagrota Gajru, Billawar, Baddoo, Hiranagar and Kathua. He added, “We will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of Chief Minister in bettering the quality of education.”
J&K government will update 113 government schools into Model schools under the first phase of new Model School Scheme. The government has approved the budget of Rs 16.50 crore for upgrading total 220 schools under the scheme. Very soon, two more model schools in the Kashmir valley will be inaugurated.
