Counselling underway for ComedK seats; aspirants displeased

The counselling for engineering seats under the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) began on Tuesday. The exercise began at 8.30 am but progressed slowly. Some non-Karnataka students were forced to cancel their flight/train tickets. The counselling got delayed or progressed slowly due to the software glitches.

COMEDK counsellingThe day also saw heated arguments between parents and ComedK officials, with the latter blaming the private agency which provided the software for counselling. The blame game delayed the process further. “We are paying so much fees and getting this in return. Can’t they conduct a mock process a day before the counselling? This is ridiculous,” said a parent.

The counselling was to end at 5.45 pm but continued late into the night. It was expected to be over by midnight. The students and parents stayed back till late in the night due to the delay. However, amid such problems on day 1 allotment were made to over 2,700 candidates who attended the counselling at NMKRV College in Jayanagar.

The counselling on Day 1 was conducted for students whose ranks were between one and 3,000. On Wednesday, those from ranks 3,000 to 6,000 have been asked to come. Meanwhile, even as the state has fixed the fee for engineering colleges under COMEDK quota at Rs.1.21 lakh and 1.70 lakh, several colleges were offering seats for as low as Rs 60,000.

In all, the counselling for COMEDK began even before CET which has left the engineering aspirants in a state of dilemma. CET mock allotment was released yesterday and first allotment list will be published tomorrow on June 30.

COMEDK Counselling Process

COMEDK Counselling is conducted in two stages. The counselling process involves Verification of Documents, Candidate’s Registration, followed by Seat Selection and Allocation. It is to be noted there that unless the candidate is registered, he/she cannot participate in the seat selection process. The seats will be allotted based on the rank secured by the candidate in the entrance exam.

The main philosophy behind COMEDK counseling is to provide an opportunity twice either to continue with the seat selected by the candidates or to change their seat depending on the circumstances. Providing more than two opportunities is not permissible. Candidates have to be physically present and no proxy registration is permissible under any circumstances. A candidate who has a better rank gets the opportunity to select a seat; a candidate who has the rank next to him cannot think of bypassing him.

Documents to be carried at the Counselling Venue

The candidates have to carry Only the original Certificates and one set of Attested Photocopies of all the documents at the time of counselling.

  • Photo ID Proof
  • Parents Photo ID Proof
  • UGET 2016 TAT Admit Card
  • UGET 2016 Rank Card
  • Class 10 Certificate or School Leaving Certificate or any School or Government record indicating the date of birth
  • A copy of Online application form of Entrance test submitted to COMEDK
  • Class 12 Mark Sheet.
  • Demand Draft of Rs. 55000 drawn only from the Nationalized banks in favor of “COMEDK” and Indicating the Test Admission Ticket Number (TAT No. XXXXXXX) there on payable at Bangalore.

After the completion of the second round counseling and seat selection thereafter, getting back the originals and also the tuition fee, from the colleges selected for any reason will be the responsibility of the candidates concerned and COMEDK has no role to play in this behalf. COMEDK becomes “functus officio‟ after 31st July 2016.
