Udaan was started in November 2014 by CBSE under the guidance of HRD ministry. The motto of this project is to increase the enrollment of girl students in the prestigious engineering college. It has been noticed that the number of girls are generally less in top engineering colleges of India. So to maintain this lacuna, MHRD decided to launch this project.

This program is for class XII students who has a background of Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Other eligibility criteria are like that the annual income of the family should be less than Rs. 6 lakhs. A candidate should have overall minimum of 70 % or CGPA of 8 and 80% marks in Science and Mathematics or a GPA of 9. And for class XII students, a minimum of 75% marks in PCM in class XI in addition to class X requirements.

All the girls from any education board of India can avail the benefit of this program. The selection of 1000 girls students will be done purely on merit basis. Final preference will be given to economically weak students.

The benefits of free online and offline study materials would be given to the students. To boost up the morale of students, motivational sessions would also be arranged. Free tablets would also be distributed among 1000 girls.

Financial assistance would be given to those girls who could make through the IITs and NITs. Students under this scheme who could not make through these colleges would not get any financial assistance. This year it has been reported that out of 300 girls, 143 cleared the exam.
