By rotation policy, CAT or Common Admission Test is conducted every year for facilitating admission to IIMs all over India. The official notification has been released, CAT 2015 would be conducted on 29 November and aspirants can fill the online application forms starting from 6 August. Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad is the organizing body for CAT 2015. All details regarding the test have been provided in the notification that includes changes in the test pattern introduced this year.
CAT or Common Admission Test is an online test, where a person’s knowledge is tested on the basis of quantitative ability, verbal ability, data interpretation and logical reasoning. The computer based CAT evaluates a student on his skills in English, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. CAT exam is one of the highly competitive MBA entrance exam in India which around two lakh students write for getting admissions to 21 IIMs and around 100 famous B-Schools across the country. This year around 115 centres have been chosen where this exam would be conducted. The exam would be held in a single day in 2 slots unlike previous years.
Candidates must have 50% aggregate marks in graduation in any discipline, from a recognized institute. Final year students are also eligible provided these students submit their graduation marks to institutes at the time of admission.

Duration of CAT 2015 has been increased by 10 minutes, earlier the test was conducted for 170 minutes, while this time, the total time allowed to solve the test paper would be 180 minutes. The exam would consist of 100 multiple choice questions. Each correct answer carries 3 marks and there is also negative marking for wrong answers. For any unanswered question, no marks would be reduced. Announcement of results would be done in the third week of December month.
According to Mr. Tathagatha Bandyopadhyyay, CAT 2015, Convenor from IIM-A talked about certain changes in the examination pattern, that would help the students from non-engineering background to crack the exam. Score in quantitative ability is responsible for the percentile rank in CAT, which leads to bias in selection procedure towards particular set of students belonging to a particular background.
This year some changes in the test content and by rationalizing weightage given to various components of the exam, the process of biased selection would be sorted. CAT website that would give details on application procedure, dates, exam pattern, scoring process, institutes taking part, cities where tests are conducted etc. This website have started functioning from Monday, 27 August 2015.
