University of Calcutta or Calcutta University is a public state university in Kolkata, established in the year 1857. The post graduate department of statistics started to function from 1941 onwards. Situated in college street campus of the University, Statistics department is regarded as one of the best in the country.
Now, University of Calcutta has invited applications for admission to Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D in Statistics. Interested candidates can submit the application forms by 5 August and the admissions will be facilitated through an entrance exam. Candidates must have passed M.Sc. or any equivalent degree in Statistics and allied subjects from any recognised university can apply. Candidates who have qualified for the NET / GATE (Mathematics) / SET (Mathematics), holding UGC Teachers Fellowship or already obtained M.Phil in Statistics and allied subjects / M.Tech can also apply. Degree holders from Indian Statistical Institute, ISI would be exempted from appearing for the written examination.

Candidates can visit University’s website to apply online and fill the application form that has name, date of birth, father’s name, marital status, category they belong, nationality, address for communication, phone number, email id, academic qualifications, details regarding NET/GATE qualification, signature and date.
Candidates will have to pay application fee of Rs. 100 by cash/DD through duly filled C.U challan, endorsed by the department head.
Since the admission criteria includes qualification in the entrance exam, selection would be based on the performance of students in written test and interview.
