The HSC, Higher Secondary Certificate examination will be rescheduled by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar. The decision to reschedule annual HSC exams has been taken as Panchayat elections will be conducted by the State Commission Election in the month of February next year.
Sushant Das, president of the Board of Secondary Education, said, “The SEC had asked the Board to inform about the probable schedule for the annual HSC examinations. Usually, the HSC examinations are held in the last week of February. The Board had received an order from the School and Mass Education department not to conduct HSC examinations in February. But after receiving the letter from the SEC about the schedule of the examinations, the Board has sent a letter to the Commission through School and Mass Education department for approval of the revised examination schedule.”
He added, “We have to reschedule the examination dates as it cannot be held with elections simultaneously. In elections, teachers play a major role while school buildings are used as polling booths and for storage of election materials. Besides, the safety of questions papers is a major concern.”
Debi Prasad Mishra, school and education minister, said, “We have asked the Board of Secondary Education to reschedule the matriculation examinations and suggest dates, which will be suitable for students, board and will also not clash with the election dates.”
The SEC has to conduct the elections before the current tenure ends in March. Though the SEC is yet to announce the dates for Panchayat elections, the BSE Odisha has been asked to reschedule its annual exams. The HSC examination was initially scheduled to start from 22nd February. The schedule will soon get revised because the dates of the matric exam will clash with the poll dates.
The students will have to fill the form 28 October to 5 November.
