The global rankings of undergraduate and graduate fashion programs were released on 24th August. The rankings were completely based on the analysis made by Business of Fashion (BoF). A total of 24 fashion schools from 11 countries had participated in the competition.
The rankings, which were launched on Monday clearly hold Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in the top place in undergraduate program and Royal College of Art in the post graduate category. Both these institutions placed on the top of the ranking are situated in United Kingdom. None of the Indian Fashion colleges get any place in the top 20 lists for BA as well as MA courses.

Ranking Determination Factors:
Analysis was made on 60 data points gathered from these participating institutes. The participants were judged on the three important dimensions, which indicated their quality whether to continue with higher education in fashion industry. The three basic dimensions are:
- Long-term Value – The major factors, which were considered during the assessment of the students were there preparations to deal with the real world. Also certain important points were kept in mind for the assessment such as the employment opportunities, support of alumni and future aspects provided by the institution to the students graduating every year.
- Global Influence – Business of Fashion (BoF) has considered every aspect of the fashion schools which participated in the event. Many of the HR professionals and surveying the prominent industry professional in this field about the global reputation of the institutions.
- Learning Experience – The officials also considers the fact about the availability of resources for the students as well as the standard of teaching in the institutions. Student’s experience with other students in the campus and their limit of satisfactions was deeply surveyed by the officials for selecting the finalists of the competition.
Imran Ahmed founder and CEO of BoF stated that the cost of studying a three year or four year bachelor’s or two year Master degree in fashion is approximately $18,000 per year in a country like UK. This ranking will help the parents as well as the students to make better choices in the selection of the institute to pursue their education. Based on the institutional and administrative characteristics, students should select the best institute, which suits them most. He further stated, “This ranking has the potential to send wake up call to even the very best fashion schools around the world.”
