Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will be holding the School Entrance Test (BHU SET 2017) on May 18, 19 & 20 to shortlist meritorious students for admissions in Central Hindu Girls’ School & Central Hindu Boys’ School. Likewise every year, BHU will be admitting the students in Classes VI, IX and XI through common entrance test.
The availability of seats in Central Hindu Boys’ School, as per the brochure, stands at 135 seats in Class VI, 200 in Class IX, (38+50) in Class XI (Maths), 25 in Class XI (Biology) and 14 each in Class XI Commerce & Arts. For Central Hindu Girls’ School, there are 70 seats in Class VI, 90 in Class IX, 16 in Class XI (Maths), 17 in Class XI (Biology), 25 in Commerce and 45 in Arts.
BHU SET 2017 will be conducted in two shifts from May 18 to 20 and the shift timing will be: morning shift (from 8 am to 10 am) and evening shift (from 3 pm to 5 pm). For Class VI admissions, the test will be held in the morning shift on May 18. On May 19, the test for Class IX will be held in the morning shift, while Class XI (Biology) test will be held in the evening shift. On May 20, the test for Class XI (Maths) will be held in the morning shift, followed by test for Class XI (Arts & Commerce) in the evening shift.
The students will get to know the exact test date and venue details from the BHU SET admit card. The admit cards are to be forwarded to all the students at their registered email addresses provided in the application form. SMS alert regarding the issue of admit card will also be sent on the mobile phones. Alternatively, the students will also be able to download BHU SET 2017 admit card through the BHU Entrance Test Portal www.bhuonline.in. To download the admit card, the students will have to use the unique code allotted to them at the time of online submission of application form.
Admit Cards will not be sent by post to any student, hence the only way to get BHU admit card for SET 2017 is to download it from either the email account or from BHU portal and get a print out of it. The students will also have to paste a passport size photo in the space provided on the admit card and self-attest it.
No student will be allowed to appear in the test without a valid admit card. Hence, if any student is not able to download the admit card till a week before the date of test, he/she should contact the authority on Phone number – 0542-2450549. One should also carefully examine the admit card for all the entries made therein. In case of any discrepancy, the students should inform the Chief Co-ordinator of SET-2017 on the phone number given above.
As far as the entrance test pattern is concerned, all the papers will consist of 100 multiple choice questions to be answered in an OMR sheet. For Class VI admission test, the questions will be based on Class V syllabus for English, Hindi, Mathematics, Social Science and General Science subjects. For Class IX test, same subjects will be there but the questions will be based on Class VIII standard.
For Class XI test, the questions will be as per the CBSE syllabus for Class X. For Maths group, the subjects will be English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and General Science; For Bio group, the subjects will be English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Science. For Class XI admissions in Commerce & Arts streams, the questions will be framed from English, Hindi, History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, General Maths & General Studies.
The merit lists will be drawn for admission in each class on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance test and the qualified students will be invited to appear for counselling. The students will be offered seats in the class/ subject combination of their choice strictly according to their merit ranking. The results of School Entrance Test will be announced on June 15 and the counselling will be carried out from June 20 to 27. The students will have to retain the admit card till the completion of the counselling process.
