Rekha, Bollywood actress and Rajya Sabha MP has donated Rs. 47 lakh from her Rajya Sabha MP Funds for the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyan. The donation took place in Mathura. The money will be used by two of the girls’ colleges in Mathura. Mathura is also the Lok Sabha constituency of Hema Malini. Rekha has now come to support her co-star by donating a huge amount of money.
The name of the colleges to whom the amount has been donated are – Kishori Rama Girls College, Mathura and Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls School, Naujheel.
A representative from Hema Malini’s constituency, said, “Hema Malini had been promoting ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bachao’ campaign and also worked effortlessly for the same and to help her co-star and friend Rekha has given funds Rs 47 lakh for two girls’ institutions in Mathura… Around 35 lakh would be given to KR Degree College for the construction of various facilities and the remaining amount will be given to Kasturba Gandhi School.”
It is also believed that more amount of money will be donated to these colleges so that various facilities can be incorporated for the development and growth of the girls’ studying there.
Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a scheme that has been started by the NDA government. The scheme aims at generating awareness and also promoting education among girls. The scheme was launched in the year 2015 on 22 January. Though the scheme was introduced in October 2014, but, the formal launch was done the next year by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
