The students of Central University of Rajasthan sat on hunger strike and staged protest for demanding the full time Vice-Chancellor for the University. When the hunger strike of students entered its tenth day, the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development stepped in and assured them that soon a permanent Vice-Chancellor would be appointed. In lieu of the same, MHRD has appointed Arun Kumar Pujari as the new V-C of Central University of Rajasthan. At present Pujari serves as the dean, school of computer and information sciences at University of Hyderabad.
MM Salunkha, the founder V-C got retired in March last year. Since his retirement, no permanent Vice Chancellor was appointed for the University. Now when the University was running under the reign of Permanent VC, it was in some or the other way affecting the day-to-day functioning.
Taking about the qualifications of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, he has completed his Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur and holds a wide experience in academic administration. He had pursued his post-graduation in mathematics from Sambalpur University. Earlier he has worked at several places which include Jawaharlal Nehru University and he had also been the vice chancellor of Sambalpur University.
If the terms and conditions are taken into consideration then he will be appointed as the Vice Chancellor for a span of 5 years till he attains the age of 70 whichever is earlier.
Central University of Rajasthan was established in the year 2009. It is situated in Kishangarh, about 80 kms from Jaipur.
The Film and Television Institute, Pune has also been going through a lot of turmoil since last two months due to strike by students over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the institute who has been a TV actor and that too also for a short span of time. Even the Supreme Court of India declined to intervene and refused that it will not entertain public interest litigation filed. Instead Union Government was asked to took a friendly decision for the students of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune so as to end up the ongoing strike.
