Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission recently concluded APPSC Group 1 examination. The main exam for the post of group 1 Services was conducted from August 17 to 28. Over 90 thousand aspirants were a part of APPSC Group 1 exam, while only around 3900 became a part of Main exam held recently.
APPSC had released the notification (no 36/2016) on December 30, 2016 for filling as much as 78 posts under Group-I Services. The vacancies are earmarked for Deputy Collector, Commercial Tax Officer, District Registrar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Municipal Commissioner, and alike posts. As per the official reports, total 93,482 candidates applied for these jobs, which were instructed to take the screening test.
APPSC conducted the Group 1 screening test on May 7 for all the eligible applicants and only 3,900 candidates were declared eligible for Main exam. The Commission organized Group 1 Main exam at 11 venues in four districts, namely, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Chittoor and Ananthapuramu.
Group 1 Main exam comprised of six papers and the candidates were required to take all the papers. Out of 3,900 candidates, only 66.58 percent appeared for the General English paper held on August 17. Overall, 2597, 2529, 2473, 2437, 2418 and 2411 candidates turned up for General English, Paper 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. APPSC said in a press note that the examination was conducted peacefully across all the centers.
According to the selection procedure followed by APPSC for filling Group 1 vacancies, the candidates will have to appear for an oral test after the main exam. Since the main exam has concluded now, the Commission will soon announce the roll numbers/ names of shortlisted candidates who will have to undergo oral test, which will be conducted in the form of an Interview. The results of Group 1 main exam will be announced at APPSC website psc.ap.gov.in.
The final selection of the candidates will be done by taking the marks scored by them in Main Exam and Interview together. APPSC will prepare a merit list based on the Main exam and Interview marks and the posts will be allotted to the finally selected candidates, as per the post preference and requirement. The Interview will carry 75 marks.
