AP Govt signs MoU with TISS for implementation of University students skill development programme

The Andhra Pradesh government signed MoU with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) on 5 September. The main aim was to increase the employability of students of the state of AP. This MoU predicted the implementation of programme activities of Andhra Pradesh University Students Skill Development Programme, a chief initiative of the state government.

It must be noted that, this agreement was inked on the Teachers Day in presence of Mr Chandrababu Naidu, CM of AP. Mr Chandrababu Naidu, spoke about the benefits behind the MoU and said that state of Andhra Pradesh would be converted into Knowledge Hub by providing quality education and providing opportunities for students for developing their skills among the universities and colleges in the state.

MoU involved strategic partnerships with civil society organizations, public sector bodies, private sector institutions, social entrepreneurship organizations to provide finishing touch to the efforts of AP State Knowledge Mission and missions objectives would also be met at an increased rate. Another important thing was TISS was assigned in the implementation of National university Students Skill Development Programme, NUSSD, whose main aim was to enhance the employability skills of University students. Eleven universities in India had implemented the initiative.

Jawaharlal Knowledge Centres, JKC of the state of AP would play a major role in the execution of the initiative. Some best courses and practices of NUSSD would be present in the programme. Some of the objectives of the MoU are, to increase the employability of students studying in universities and degree colleges of AP, to collaborate with industries and higher institutes in the implementation of Employment Skills Development programme, to design syllabus to identify local industrial needs for rural SC/ST youth.

Other objectives included the development of broader framework for assessment of technical education and engineering education, assisting in capacity development measures, to help in linking with Higher Education Institutes to AP State Skill Development Corporation, APSSDC, at state levels and National Skills Development Corporation, NSDC, at the national levels etc.
