Anna University started TNEA counselling on June 25 with counselling for sports category candidates. For 500 seats under sports quota, 1,188 students were invited to participate in the counselling. Random unders were allotted to candidates on June 20 and the rank list was rolled out after two days, on June 22. For general category admissions, the counselling began on June 27 and will go on till July 21 for last candidates having score above 77.50 marks.
The online applications for TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) – 2016 were invited from April 15 to June 4, wherein 1,85,070 applicants registered while 1,34,722 completed their registration by paying the counselling fee. Counselling is being done for admissions in B.E. and B.Tech degree courses in University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University along with government and government-aided engineering colleges. TNEA Counselling also includes seats surrendered by Self-Financing Engineering colleges. There are total 1,92,009 seats in 524 colleges to be filled through TNEA counselling 2016.
The special counselling session for sports quota candidates was done on June 25 in which 352 seats were filled. Another 221 candidates were invited for differently-abled category admissions. All the remaining seats have been added to the general category to facilitate admissions. With three seats each in Anna University cluster (College of Engineering, Guindy; Madras Institute of Technology, Chromepet; AC Tech College of Engineering and School of Architecture and Planning), total 500 seats are under sports quota, TNEA Secretary S Indumathi said.
The seat allocation is being done under seven categories following the reservation rules of Tamil Nadu goverment as in 31 % seats under open competition, 26.50 % for Backward Class, 3.50 % for Backward Class Muslim, 20 % for Most Backward Class & denotified communities; 15 % for Scheduled Caste; 3 % for Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars) and 1 % for Scheduled Tribes.
In order of the merit, candidates are required to participate in the counselling as the allotment of college and branch will be done on the basis of candidates’ preferences. To secure admission in the allotted seat, candidates will have to pay an initial deposit of Rs 5,000 (Rs. 1000 for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) which can be done through Cash or Demand Draft. Candidates are required to carry their all documents in original at the time of counselling.
