World Education Summit 2015 was held in Delhi on 21 & 22 August where Andhra University bagged first prize for its report on topic ‘Enhancement of Employment through Skill Development’. The participants who took part in the summit discussed about enhancement of education at schools as well as at the higher education levels. It must be noted that Andhra University bagged the top prize by competing with 100 other universities.
According to Prof G.S.N. Raju, vice-chancellor of Andhra University, more than 100 universities took part in the education summit. Prof Raju, who was also a panel member at the summit, spoke on accreditation, assessment and evaluation of higher education. He further said that his objective is to take Andhra University into top 100 ranked universities in the world. Prof Raju also informed that AU was second among all the national universities and was ranked 151 by QS World’s University Rankings.
Professor Raju thanked the staffs of university who extended their support and recommended them to assure better ranking of the university in the future years. Prof Raju spoke highly about the research works of the university, its high class infrastructure and its faculty members that played part for the university to get the coveted prize.
Prof Raju said that the main priority at present is to collect funds for the university and other issues like getting central university status would be done later. Others who took part were AU rector EA Narayana, Registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao, Media Relations Dean DVR Murthy.
Andhra University situated in port city of Visakhapatnam, was formed in the year 1926 and is one of the oldest universities in India. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has given 3.65 rating out of 4 to the university. Quality Management System was implemented by this university. In the year 2006, Andhra university became the first general university in India to get ISO 9001: 2000 certification.
