Providing Aadhaar number has been made mandatory for most of the competitive examinations for seats in undergraduate professional courses for the academic year 2017-18. After JEE Main, UPSEE and many others in the row, now the administration of Dr Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), has issued a notification that every student will have to submit his/her Unique Identification Number (UID) of Aadhaar card while submitting examination forms. Not only this, but also the university has even decided to mark the attendance of the students through electronic devices that accept the UID number.
With this step, the university officials will be able to register students and mark their attendance online. The decision for the same was taken in the recently held meeting at AKTU Main Campus in Lucknow between the university authorities and college representatives. More than 150 technical institutions of higher learning affiliated to the AKTU are located in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad. The university administration will now become digitised so as to avoid malpractices such as fake admissions and leak of question papers.
The main reason why the initiative has been taken is that massive irregularities were found in the documents of somewhere around 20,000 students. As a consequence, the university administration has suspended 5,000 students after rechecking the documents of all the 20,000 students, which took almost a month.
Leak of question papers will be avoided in a way that the question paper for semester exams will be sent to exam centres online. Software will be developed to ensure safety of both question and answer papers. Exam forms and allocation of exam centres has already started from April 1. The semester exams are scheduled to commence from May 13.
For the students who failed in the last semester or in the previous academic year will be given another chance and soon a new policy will roll out for them soon.
